Right now in my shop, I am offering a Valentine’s Day special on my two Valentine’s Day cards! You can grab a card and the matching brooch together for a discounted price! What a cute gift idea!

What is your favorite thing about Valentine’s Day? I like how everything is pink and heart shaped, it just makes me smile and want to buy all the things!

Scrawny Girl Shop Update: Holiday Edition

I’ve been super busy working on new products, sketching out new ideas, and just enjoying being creative. I am also in a super festive mood, even though I have not busted out the holiday decorations yet!
I added a few holiday items to the shop. Each item is handmade and super cute!

You can grab 3 original watercolored illustrations that all my Christmas items are based on, in my shop. They are all of girls wearing glasses, getting into the holiday spirit!

Here is an example of one of the cards. I cut each card, illustrated, then colored with watercolor pencils. I love how fancy the inside of the envelopes are!

Today I experimented with shrinky dinks, and made an ornament using these fun illustrations. I plan to make a few more to add to the shop later this week.
I’ve been working on a few more fun items including a few screenprinted totes and tees with my Scrawny Girl logo. I’m hoping to get those ready before the big Cyber Monday Sale!
I’m also working a few Harry Potter and Bee & Puppycat sketches. Not sure yet if they will turn into paintings.
Is there something you would like to see more of in the shop? Something I could try and illustrate? Let me know!

Manga Quest: Alice in the Country of Hearts

Picture 7

My husband bought me the omnibus 1 of Alice in the Country of Hearts (Heart no Kuni no Alice) for my birthday this past year. I read it super fast, and found it super interesting and a totally different take of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

The series centers on Alice getting kidnapped down the rabbit hole into a civil war ravaged Wonderland, where all the slightly mad denizens want to seduce her…or kill her. Even though this shojo manga is filled with handsome fellows, the story has a dark and surreal edge, and its sinister secrets make it a compelling mystery/fantasy series. Not only have I enjoyed the story so far (I’ve only read 1 out of 3 omnibus editions), I really enjoyed the artwork with the gorgeous lolita-esque dresses.

I own the second omnibus, but haven’t had a chance to read it. I just saw the third one is out, and the series is finally finished in English. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

This photo is from YenPress, who are the ones who translate/make the omnibus editions.

Have you read Alice in the Country of Hearts, or played the video game this manga is based on? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Scrawny Girl Shop Update

I have been working on this pattern for what seems like forever! After many failed attempts, I have this cutie! I can’t wait to make more. I added a peter pan collar, and who can resist the kitten Halloween fabric?! She is up in the shop right now! Stay tuned for more cats and other animals, coming soon!

This little zombie has already sold, to her look a like Rachael from Talk 2 The Trees. I just added another zombie to the shop, and I will be making more little zombies to add as soon as I can!

I have so many ideas, and so little time! I can’t wait to get back to my sewing machine!

Scrawny Girl Halloween Dolls

I just listed these two cuties in my Etsy store, and I’m excited to work on more soon!

I have lots of cute Halloween fabric, and I am trying to make as many cute chibi dolls as I can before Halloween gets here!

I’ve been experimenting with different faces and hair. I’ve been watching YouTube videos trying to learn new sewing techniques. I really want to try free motion stitching with my sewing machine. I also want to start making clothes and accessories for my dolls like capes, glasses, and eye patches. If only I had a time turner, I could get more accomplished in a day….
