That’s What She Said Sunday

I recently started reading The Artists Way by Julia Cameron, and actively doing what she calls “morning pages”. In the book she refers to the morning pages as a sort of brain drain, to help get all of the junk out so you can start focusing on what really matters. I am not able to do mine in the morning, but when I get some quiet time I spew out 3 pages or so of nothingness, and I find I am able to find my focus for the day (or night).

I’ve been focusing on a ‘creative recovery’. Lately, I have felt bombarded by the blogosphere, feeling a loss of identity. It seems that everyone is doing the same thing, and I felt like I had lost sight of who I was in this wave of unoriginality. After talking with some friends, I gained some insight into my own blog and the reason why I was blogging in the first place. I realized I was blogging just to blog, and in reality that was a waste of my time. I enjoy this blog, and it was time to put more thought into my posts, so you may see (or have already seen) some changes on here content wise.

The first step I took to my recovery was unfollowing people that didn’t inspire me, and doing a ‘spring clean’ of all my social media platforms. I urge you to do the same!

I am looking for some new blogs to follow, and friends to make! Do you have any blogs to recommend? Is your blog awesome? Leave a link in the comments, I’d love to check it out.

  1. I’ve never read The Artist’s Way (I’ve heard mixed things about it lately, but it sounds interesting regardless), but I have done morning pages and found them super useful. As for blog suggestions? I have none. I’m terrible with that. I’m always looking for new blogs myself, so I never seem to have suggestions.

    • I’ve tried reading it several times. It was a gift from an old employer that I really looked up to, so I keep wanting to give it a chance. There are parts I like and others I could do without. I’m mostly just reading through and jotting down notes that I find pertain to me. I’m not doing any of the tasks. I’ve been reading lots of creative life/motivation books lately.

  2. Have you ever seen any of the books by Keri Smith? She has a lot of books to boost creativity. Living Out Loud is like more light hearted version of the Artist Way (which I tried reading, but I wasn’t in the right mind set to do. I’m not a fan of writing and the idea of the morning pages seemed so time consuming^_~)

Blog recommendations? Hmm. Not really, you probably read the ones I’d recommend, hee hee. I’ve been on a baby blog kick lately and look through topbabyblogs.com for some fun blogs. And there’s my blog.*points to link*

    • I haven’t read any books by Keri Smith, so I will definitely check those out. This is like the millionth time I’ve tried to read The Artists Way. I don’t think I’m getting what was intended out of it, but there are lots of good quotes throughout the book. I like a good baby blog, especially as a new parent. Gonna check your blog out right now. Thanks for the link 🙂
